Good music is good music whatever genre is comes from."Īnd now that the classification debate is all sorted (is it ever sorted?), which songs from pop's extensive and varied oeuvre should you be playing to test your stereo speakers? Thought you'd never ask. Perhaps our favourite such quote comes from Nina Persson, lead singer of The Cardigans, who said, "Pop music is a difficult term to define. Peter Tork has argued, "Pop music is aspirin and the blues are vitamins." Prince once uttered, "What's missing from pop music is danger" and Bono's thoughts on the matter include: "Pop music often tells you everything is OK, where rock music tells you it's not OK, but you can change it." We certainly agree with Johnny Rotten when he said, "Pop music I have always loved best."īut what of the nagging notion that pop music is lesser, diluted, lacking in substance and ultimately, manufactured? An understanding of contemporaneous societal pressures (and momentary pain relief from these) is surely a positive aspect of pop music, though. Of course, it is worth remembering that to be good encourages popularity, but to be popular is not always to be good. ![]()

The planet has warmed by roughly 1.2 C, but if we are to limit that to 1.5 C by the end of the century, which is the ambitious goal set at the 2015 Paris climate accord, it could mean fewer climate-related disasters. We are already seeing this happening, and the more the planet warms, the worse these disasters will become. As a result, there will be an increase in floods, droughts, rising sea levels and more. Why is nuclear fusion important?Įarth is facing a climate crisis caused by centuries of burning fossil fuels. The International Atomic Energy Agency explains that while hydrogen bombs do use fusion reactions, a second fission bomb is needed to detonate it. With nuclear fusion, there is also no chance of a nuclear meltdown as there is with fission, and nuclear fusion cannot be used to make nuclear weapons. Unlike nuclear reactors, the process doesn't result in byproducts like the spent rods found in nuclear power plants. Instead, nuclear reactors generate energy by separating heavy atoms.Īs well, fusion produces clean energy. But those reactors operate using nuclear fission.įission is the exact opposite of fusion, which forces atoms together. When most people think about nuclear energy, they likely think about the nuclear reactors we have today. How is it different from nuclear power we already use? However, it's important to note that 300 megajoules of traditional energy - often referred to as "from the wall" energy - were needed to fire the lasers during the experiment, according to Mark Herrmann, program director for weapon physics and design at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. While the energy produced was small - about three megajoules, or enough to power a light bulb - it marks a historic first in nuclear fusion energy because the lasers used just over two megajoules to fire into the target. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Our driver will be equipped with a camera to capture your special event memories and forward them to your email address a week after the party, FREE of charge upon request. I no longer have to wait a few seconds when connecting it to my monitor In Final Cut Pro, I can move the cursor freely without worrying that I am abusing the machine. It runs fast and smoothly All interactions are implemented instantly and there is no sign of delay. The M1 Pro might have slower exporting time but it excels in everything else. I continued using it for a week before deciding if I should return it. I was quite disappointed and thought that the difference in performance might be insignificant That would be a big mistake to spend over $2,500 to get a new laptop with the same performance. Specifically, it took 3:37″ and 3:46″ respectively. Surprisingly, the exporting time of the M1 Pro is slower than the Intel Core i9. Once I got the M1 Pro MacBook, I jumped into Final Cut Pro to export a 4K video. This is not really comfortable when working on the laptop and I couldn’t wait for an upgrade so that I could upload more 4K videos. Another issue is that the fan cranks up loudly during the process and the machine gets hot easily. Recently, I even had to force quit the app regularly. Even then, the app was still unresponsive when dealing with large files. To process 4K videos smoother, I had to lower the video quality of preview window by setting it to Better Performance instead of Better Quality. The Final Cut Pro app became sluggish, unresponsive and even freezed when I was working on some videos. I was not really satisfied with the Intel MacBook Pro because it is not fast enough when handling 4K videos. Editing videos in Final Cut Pro is probably the most power-demanding task in my daily work. I work as a content creator and spend most of the time working on web browsers, spreadsheets, editing photos and videos. I was quite surprised that the new MacBook Pro has the same price of $2,500 as my older one. All tests indicate an absolute win for the M1 Pro, therefore, I had no doubt regarding the performance. ![]() There were multiple benchmarks comparing the two processors. Specifically, my previous laptop features 2.3 GHz Intel Core i9 8-Core, 16GB of 2,400 MHz DDR4 RAM, and AMD Radeon Pro 560X GPU The new MacBook Pro comes with M1 Pro chip with 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU. I only focus on the difference in performance between the M1 Pro and Intel Core i9. The changes are not really important for me because I often use the laptop with lid closed, connecting to an external monitor, external microphone and wireless keyboard. The quality of the display, microphone and webcam is also improved significantly. It is thicker, heavier, removes the Touch Bar while adds back the MagSafe charging port, a SD card slot, and an HDMI port. In terms of design, the new MacBook Pro looks so different to the one I bought in 2019. I considered between the M1 Pro and the M1 Max chip, and finally I opted for the M1 Pro since it is more affordable and I probably don’t need the extra power provided by the M1 Max. I got the MacBook Pro 14-inch as I just need a portable laptop I don’t need a large display because I plug it to my monitor most of the time. All of my apps are optimized for Apple silicon, so there is no reason to stay with Intel. The new architecture promises the highest possible performance with the lowest power consumption. I often upgrade it every 3 years, however, the upgrade came sooner this time because I want to try out Apple silicon SoC. The MacBook Pro is a powerhouse in a portable size I take it with me when travelling and plug it to an external 4K monitor when working from home. It is undoubtedly the best laptop and it is the reason why I recommend all my friends and family to ditch their Windows laptop. I have used MacBook Pro as my primary laptop for about 10 years. ![]() ![]() ![]() He is still active in the entertainment scene, and his net worth will undoubtedly continue to grow in the future.Ĭ published an article about Chris Cuomo’s net worth. ![]() And none of them come cheap, with the least expensive Ultratech to be found on Blade HQ ringing in at over $250, going up into the stratosphere from there. Beyond that there are endless variations of paint colors and printed patterns, some classy (carbon fiber, dark stonewash blade) and some almost shockingly gaudy ( Zombie Tech? Electric green with blood spatter?) but a variation to fit nearly every taste. The full-fat Ultratech sports a 3.4” blade in high-end Elmaxsteel (though other premium steels are used such as M390 and CTS-204p), which comes in drop point, tanto, and dagger blade grinds as well as a few spin offs – like the “Hellhound” which is a fascinating mix of a tanto tip and a clip point.Īll Ultratechs share a few basic properties – an aluminum handle that’s chamfered around the edges, proprietary “tri-angle” hardware that requires a $22(!) tool to work on (although it’s better if you just don’t), and a right hand tip down deep carry clip that is secured to the knife on the butt of the handle by a carbide-tipped glass breaker. Microtech makes a pretty big variety of OTF’s but the Ultratech is the flagship, a continuously updated model that’s available in a frankly staggering array of variations (there are twelve pages of Ultratech’s on BladeHQ’s website) as well as two smaller versions – the UTX-70 and UTX-85, which are 70% and 85% scale versions of the Ultratech. In fact, Microtech is the OTF brand – arguably the most well-known name when it comes to high end automatics and OTF knives. The MicrotechUltratech is, to many people, the out-the-front knife. If you like the Infidel you’ll probably also like the Pagan, which is another great OTF but is so similar to the Infidel it doesn’t warrant a separate entry on this list. There’s also a Gold Class Infidel that was produced in very limited numbers, with an acid-etched stainless Damasteel drop point blade, heat-anodized handle and hardware, and a suitably high price tag as well. Although it’s pricey at typically over $400 retail, the Infidel has been in production for ten years now (which Benchmade reminded us of by releasing the 10 Year Anniversary Model in S30V) and is a well-known favorite of those who serve in the military for its robust build quality and dependable, easy deployment. The deep carry pocket clip (inscribed with The Infidel…) is configured for right had tip down carry only. ![]() The blade itself is D2 tool steel, satin finished and chisel ground on both sides for a double-sided dagger shape. A series a milled “steps” in the aluminum handle aid grip. This is a more natural action for your hand (similar to hand placement for deploying a folding knife via a thumb stud or hole) and gives you a more solid grip when the knife fires open. The Infidel is a dual action OTF meaning the switch pushes it out as well as pulls it in, and unlike a lot of OTF’s the switch is mounted on the handle rather than the spine. Note at the time of writing the full size Infidel now only comes in black (3300BK). Weights are 4.5 ounces and 3.4 ounces, respectively. It comes in two sizes: the full fat 3300 Infidel with its 3.9” blade and 8.9” overall length, and the newer Infidel Mini with a 3.10” blade and a 7.10” overall length. The Benchmade 3300 Infidel is one of the best-known OTF’s on the planet, and arguably one of the best regarded. With that, here’s a list of some of the better OTF knives on the market today. A dual action OTF means that both the deployment as well as the retraction are powered, usually by pushing and pulling the same control switch in different directions. ![]() Single action means that only the deployment is powered but the blade has to be forced back into the body manually. In general, there are two types of OTF knives: single action and dual action. ![]() In contrast, the natural position of the Spring Assisted Knife is closed and there is no pressure being exerted upon the blade which has to be deployed by some manual action (i.e flipping) by the user which is then assisted by a spring. The button allows the stored energy of the spring to propel the blade out from the handle. Now, the distinction versus Spring Assisted Knives is that with a switchblade or automatic knife the blade’s natural position is open, and it’s being held closed by a locking spring mechanism that’s released with a button or switch. Specifically, the OTF knife is a switchblade where the blade simply comes ‘out the front’. For the uninformed, OTF knives are a type of switchblade – that is, an automatic knife which deploys the blade ‘automatically’ on pressing a button or switch. ![]() ![]() ![]() Microsoft Windows, WinZip, WinRAR, IZarc, Info-ZIP, 7-Zip, PeaZip, B1 Free Archiver, DotNetZip. Refineries can also blend some crudes to make a mix fitting their design properties while lowering emissions. EU customers can use new crude oil contract opportunities to drive emissions reductions from suppliers using methane leak reductions, flaring reductions, and increased renewable power use at wells. On the other hand, crudes like Saudi Arab Light might be a good substitute for Urals, and emissions could be lower. The properties of oil gravity and sulfur content (pictured above) are not clearly correlated with a crude stream’s life-cycle GHGs. The GHG emissions intensity of refining oil varies significantly based on how the crude oil was produced and the specific processes used at a refinery. The most common defining properties affecting refinery operations are sulfur content and API gravity, or similar measurements of crude oil density. Refineries are specifically designed to process a narrow range of crude streams based on various characteristics. Intermission: Matching Low-Emissions Crude to the Right RefineriesĮurope’s primary challenge is replacing Russian oil with sources that are chemically similar and competitively priced, and that also provide an opportunity to reduce the carbon footprint of fossil fuel supplies. The sanctions target a 90 percent reduction in Russian oil imports by year-end through the immediate phaseout of seaborne oil (nearly two-thirds of EU’s Russian imports) and eventual phaseouts of oil by pipeline, although the timing for the latter remains undetermined. Russia accounted for over 25 percent of 2021 EU oil imports across 2.2 million barrels per day (mbd) of crude and 1.2 mbd of refined products. The EU adopted broad sanctions on Russian oil that take effect by the end of 2022. Act 1: Disrupting 25 Percent of the EU Crude Oil Status Quo More climate-conscious decisions by EU refineries can lead the way. Governments and oil executives must support full supply-chain emissions visibility through these shifts, thinking through the lens of greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity to maximize financial and climate benefits. ![]() The global oil industry will need to retool to meet this new landscape and can profitably reduce emissions in the process. An analysis of the viable replacements for Russian oil imports shows that lower-emissions alternatives are available to the EU, but making the switch will not be as simple as dropping in one crude oil stream to replace another. Until then, Europe’s phaseout of Russian oil supply introduces opportunities to reduce supply-side emissions and shift oil prices closer to their true climate cost. Europe needs to accelerate the build-out of its clean energy infrastructure to reduce oil demand. ![]() |
